Ecolog’s UK Ministry of Defence Deployable Food Programme Contract Achieves BRC Agents and Brokers Certification

Ecolog International UK Ltd. received its first British Retail Consortium (BRC) Global Standards Agents and Brokers Certification, following an in-depth audit. Building upon Ecolog’s already successful track record of ISO 22000:2005 certifications, the audit was organized through the British Standards Institution (BSI) to check Ecolog’s Food Safety Management System for its UK Ministry of Defence’s Deployable Food Programme (DFP) contract.

The aim of the Agents and Brokers standard is for companies that purchase or “take title to” products for resale to manufacturers, other brokers, retailers or food service companies, but not directly to the consumer.

Ecolog Program Manager Rob Charles, who oversees the DFP contract, highlighted the fact that this standard is very aligned to Ecolog’s business in supporting the UK Ministry of Defence. The certification indicates further reassurance and confirmation, independently, that Ecolog is delivering the highest standards benchmarked against a stringent and recognized standard.

The audit was conducted over two days in July 2018 in the UK Office in Harlow, where the auditor checked and verified Ecolog’s processes and procedures to ensure full compliance with the BRC Standard.

Roy Griffin, Ecolog Vice President Quality & Safety, highlighted the fact that achieving the BRC certification for Ecolog provides customers confidence that a critical link in the movement and trade of products has been achieved, along with meeting quality supplier product safety standards. Further, it shows that Ecolog maintains an effective chain of traceability. The BRC Global Standard for Agents and Brokers also provides a framework for managing product safety, quality and legality.

Says Roy Griffin: “This achievement by Ecolog’s UK Ministry of Defence team and all the supporting functions, including Procurement, Logistics and Quality Assurance, sends a strong message to our competition that Ecolog’s food logistics program maintains robust systems and strategic importance.”
